DOTr, DPWH & MMDA Officials Visits Shin-Yokohama Subway Construction Site


Government officials working for the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) visited the construction site of the Shin-Yokohama Subway to learn more about the Japanese Tunnelling Technology.


DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade, DPWH Secretary Mark Villar and MMDA Chairman Danny Lim visited Japan to learn more about the Japanese Technology which they plan to use for the highly anticipated construction of the Metro Manila Subway.

The Duterte government is now finalizing the agreement for the P227-billion Metro Manila Subway Project that Pres. Duterte and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe were expected to sign this year.


The construction of the first leg of the subway system, which will connect Quezon City to Taguig, is expected to be finished in 2024. Once operational, it is expected to service around 350,000 passengers daily.

DOTr also Proposed the 13 Stations of the Metro Manila Subway:
  • Along Mindanao Avenue, North Avenue, Quezon Avenue, East Avenue, Anonas and Katipunan in Quezon City
  • Ortigas North and Ortigas South in Pasig City
  • Kalayaan Avenue in Makati City
  • Bonifacio Global City, Cayetano Boulevard and Food Terminal Inc. (FTI) in Taguig
  • and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City.
