Veteran Scout Ranger Reveals the Reasons Why Our Troops are Slowing Down in Marawi City

Former soldier and a veteran of the elite Scout Ranger Regiment of the Philippine Army, Sir Abe Purugganan reveals the reasons on why our troops are now slowing down on their offensive efforts against the Maute-ISIS group in Marawi City.

According to Abe Purugganan hostages are slowing down our forces in Marawi City and the government troops do not want to target the mosque where terrorists are holed in.

The veteran soldier also revealed that approaches to the terrorist positions are kill zones, the terrorists are also using Night Vision Goggles (NVGs) which are commonly used only by government forces for their night operations.

Sir Abe also revealed about the network of  sewers running through all of Marawi City giving terrorist mobility to move around as he revealed also that a week before Marawi siege, the City Engineers Office flushed out the sewers to clean it.

Here's the Complete Revelations of Sir Abe Purugganan:

WHAT IS SLOWING DOWN OUR TROOPS?

1- There are hostages.

2- They do not want to target the mosque where terrorists are holed in.

3- Approaches to the terrorist positions are all kill zones. Terrorists have also NVG's for their night operations.

4- A network of sewers runs thru all of Marawi City giving terrorist mobility to move around. A week before the Marawi Siege, the City Engineers Office flushed out the sewers to clean it.

5- The sewers also serve as tunnels for cover against aerial bombardment. Sewers and canals in urban warfare are crucial operational routes for re-supply and movements of personnel. They are both for offensive and defensive operations. Every urban warrior understands this.

A tunnel warfare may have to be undertaken by our forces. 'tunnel rats' may have to be employed unless the whole of Marawi sewer system can be demolished.

6- Houses and buildings were prepared to have escape routes to include foxholes with strong aerial bombardment cover. This defensive posture is an indication of a long period of preparation and planning for their defensive operation. Muslim rebels are well known for this.

7- Spotters at the airport warn terrorists of aerial bombardment by Phil Air Force. This allows the terrorists to seek cover in foxholes and in the sewers before our air assets can even take off from the ground.

8- The MAUTE/ISIS terrorists have indicated their unwillingness to withdraw or surrender. They are prepared and want to die as a jihadist.

What would you do if you were the Commander of TF Marawi?
