DPWH Inaugurates Phase 3 of the Zapote River Drive Project that Will Help Ease Traffic Congestion

Secretary Mark Villar of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) briefed the guest of honor DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu along with Sen. Cynthia Villar and Rep. Emmeline Aglipay-Villar during the inauguration of the Phase 3 of the Zapote River Drive that will ease traffic congestion and reduce the incident of flooding in the area.

The Zapote River Drive covers a full kilometers of flood control structure and improvements covering Pegasus St., Moonwalk, Talon 5 to M. Alvarez Avenue and an additional 500 meters that extend to San Isidro Subdivision and Pamplona 1, at the Zapote River Drive, Las Pinas City.

DPWH Secretary Mark Villar led the inauguration of the said project attended by fellow Cabinet member DENR Sec. Roy Cimatu and lawmaker, Sen. Cynthia Villar.

The Zapote River Drive will not only ease traffic congestion but could also reduce the incidents of flooding in the area. The new project of the Duterte administration features an 11-km road which will connect Barangay Zapote to Daanghari traversing 8 barangays.

Sen. Cynthia Villar also noted that the maintenance road will be an alternative route for private vehicles, thus, volume of vehicles along the Alabang-Zapote Road will be greatly reduced. The senator also added that travel time will be reduced by 70%.

Sen. Villar has been working closely with the city government of Las Pinas and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) headed by Sec. Mark Villar to address the traffic problems along the Alabang-Zapote Road.

There are two more phases left for the full completion of the Zapote River Drive project with Phase 4 targeted for inauguration by the first quarter of next year.
