Pres. Duterte Proclaims 13 New Special Economic Zones in Just 9 Months as President


President Rody Duterte delivered his promise to alleviate poverty and provide more jobs for Filipinos as he proclaimed 13 new special economic zones in various parts of the Philippines from July 2016 to March 2017.


The proclamation of Pres. Duterte was made in the first nine months of service to the Filipino people as Chief Executive. Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) Director General Charito Plaza confirmed the proclamation of Pres. Duterte.

According to PEZA Director General Charito Plaza, most of the newly proclaimed economic zones by Pres. Duterte are vertical developments for office spaces, registered as information technology centers.

Out of the 13 Special Economic Centers proclaimed by the former Mayor of Davao City, 11 of them were IT centers with a total land development of 25 hectares.


The proclaimed IT centers include Starmall Bataan in Balanga, Bataan; The North Park in Mandaue City, Cebu; Cyber Sigma in Taguig City; Ract I.T. Data Center in Para├▒aque City; Avenir in Cebu City; Cyberscape Gamma in Pasig City; Kayumanggi Center in Quezon City; and BEN-LOR IT Center in Quezon City.

The 72-year-old Pres. Rody Duterte who earlier welcomed to the Philippines the head of states of our neighboring ASEAN countries also proclaimed one agro-industrial economic zone, the five-hectare land development for Brooke's Point Agri-Industrial Economic Zone in Palawan, and one manufacturing economic zone in Pampanga - the 28-hectare TECO Industrial Park.

PEZA also revealed that aside from the 13 Special Economic Zones already proclaimed by Pres. Duterte, there were about 40 proclamations pending for signing of the Chief Executive.
