P50 Billion Metro Cebu Expressway Project to Start in 2018 Confirms Sec.Villar


Secretary Mark Villar of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) confirmed that the implementation of the P50 Billion Metro Cebu Expressway Project will start in 2018.


The highly anticipated expressway project in Cebu Province, a very first outside of Luzon spans 74 kilometers connecting the cities of Naga in Southern Cebu to the City of Danao in Northern Cebu.

According to DPWH Sec. Mark Villar the said project will be the biggest ever infrastructure project in the history of Cebu.

The Metro Cebu Expressway Project has already undergone studies and they're now working on its detailed surveys.


Sec. Villar also noted that the project will be divided in three phases and should be finished before the term of Pres. Rody Duterte ends in 2022.

The DPWH announced that once the Metro Cebu Expressway Project is finished, travel time from Naga City to Danao City will only take one hour. Sec. Villar also revealed that the DPWH have been working on this in the past year.

The six-lane expressway will snake through the countryside with tunnel and overpass components. The first to be implemented in the Metro Cebu Expressway Project will be the Danao component, this will be reportedly be the simplest and fastest to construct.

Studies for all phases of the Metro Cebu Expressway Project have been completed and are on the advanced stages of implementation according to RDC-7 Chairman Kenneth Cobonpue.
