Jojo Robles Slams NUJP Urging them to Let Owners of ABS-CBN & PDI to Answer Pres. Duterte's Charges

Veteran journalist Jojo Robles of The Manila Standard slams the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) for allegedly meddling with the affairs between ABS-CBN and the Philippine Daily Inquirer against Pres. Rody Duterte's charges against the media company.

Jojo Robles urges NUJP to let ABS-CBN and PDI answer the charges thrown against them by no less than the President of the Republic of the Philippines and not use the press freedom issue but an ethical media ownership issue.

Pres. Duterte previously fired against the two leading news media company, ABS-CBN on their alleged biased reporting against the former Mayor of Davao City and his entire political allies as well as members of the Cabinet.

The 72-year-old President recently accused the owners of PDI for alleged tax evasion through their various companies and threatened to stop the operations of ABS-CBN after they allegedly swindled him during the election period.

The NUJP slams President Rody Duterte's accusations against ABS-CBN and Inquirer as they accused both news agencies as biased and unfair. NUJP Secretary General Dabet Panelo noted that "Mr. Duterte, your mouth is getting the better of you!"

According to Robles, NUJP should stop meddling in the government's affairs as he noted that the "rights of the ordinary media workers or the constitutional guarantee on freedom of expression are not threatened her. The issue is the abuse of power by certain media owners -- a serious charge that involves only the highest news executives, assuming you can call these media bigshots ordinary working journalists at all," Robles stated.

Here's the Complete Statement of Jojo Robles:

Dear NUJP: Let the owners of ABS-CBN and PDI answer the charges hurled against them. This is not a press freedom issue but an ethical media ownership issue.

The rights of the ordinary media workers or the constitutional guarantee on freedom of expression are not threatened here. The issue is the abuse of power by certain media owners -- a serious charge that involves only the highest news executives, assuming you can call these media bigshots ordinary working journalists at all.

So please quit making this a "democracy is dead" thing, as Rappler's boss calls it. (By the way, who owns Rappler, really?)
