DOTr Sec. Tugade Leads Groundbreaking Ceremony of LRT-1 Cavite Extenstion Project


The head of the Duterte administration's Department of Transportation, Secretary Arthur Tugade led the much-awaited Groundbreaking Ceremony of Light Rail Transit (LRT) 1 Cavite Extension Project that aims to extend the existing Baclaran Station to the future Niyog Station in Bacoor, Cavite.


DOTr Secretary Art Tugade urged the private sector and media to help carry out the Duterte admistration's plans f "BuildBuildBuild."

The LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project will be built by the private sectors in close coordination with the national goverment. The Light Rail Manila Corporation, a consortium of Ayala Corporation, Metro Pacific Light Rail Corporation and Macquarie Infrastructure Holdings will build the project under PPP-scheme.


The Light Rail Manila Corporation or LRMC is the current contracted operator of LRT Line 1 that traverse from Roosevelt in Quezon City passing through Caloocan City and ends at Baclaran, Manila.


According to ParaƱaque Mayor Olivares, the LRT Cavite Extension from Baclaran to Bacoor will be great help to the city.

Sec. Tugade on his part said that the line is expected to accommodate 410,000 passengers/day on its opening year, and is targeted to be completed earlier before the term of Pres. Duterte ends, approximately around October 2021.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, DOTr Sec. Tugade was quoted as saying "A well-meaning partnership between private sector and government can fast-track the projects. Naniniwala kami na kung tatapusin ang mga konstruksyon at imprastraktura sa lalong madaling panahon without sacrificing quality and cost, sa lalong madaling panahon, the benefits will immediately accrue to the people," the DOTr Secretary said.
