Seven (7) Industrial & Eonomic Zones Being Eyed in Mindanao by NEDA Under Pres. Duterte


A total of seven (7) industrial and economic zones will soon to rise in Mindanao under the administration of Pres. Rody Duterte which will be implemented by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA).


The said projects of Pres. Duterte is part of the NEDA's Mindanao Strategic Development Framework (MSDF) 2020.

Maria Lourdes Lim, NEDA-Davao Regional Director confirmed the projects in Mindanao as she was quoted as saying "These are some of the priority programs, projects, and activities for implementation over this plan period and all the way up to 2045 as we find it in the Mindanao Development Framework." This will include development and operationalization of industrial estates and some of these are region specific," the Regional Director said.


During the presentation of Maria Lourdes Lim at the reintegration consultation for OFWs last April 20, at the Grand Regatta Hotel, she revealed that a Freeport Zone at the Island Garden City of Samal will be developed for Davao Region while two projects re in line for Soccsksargen with the development of Makar Freeport at General Santos City and of the Maasim-Kiamba-Maitum Industrial Triangle.

Aside from the above-mentioned projects, the Philmico Industrial Estate Special Economic Zone in Surigao City will also be developed and made operational as with the Iligan City's Metro Iligan Regional Agro-Industrial Center.

For the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Pres. Duterte will developed a public freeport in Maguindanao.

The MSDF 2020 envisions the Mindanao to be "peaceful and socially-inclusive with a strong, sustainable, competitive, ICT-driven, agri-industrial, and resource-based economy that is responsive to local and global opportunities."
