Philippine Army Besieged Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) Camp in Sumisip, Basilan


The Philippine Army besieged one of Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) camp located at the mountainous areas of Barangay Cabcaban, Sumisip, Basilan. The victory of the Philippine Military was confirmed by Lt. Gen. Carlito Galvez Jr., commander of the Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom).


Lt. Gen. Carlito Galvez Jr., commander of WestMinCom announced to the media that that 68th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army that besieged the ASG camp discovered around 38 bunkers and three guard posts inside the camp of he terrorist group.

Aside from the besieged camp in Barangay Cabcaban, Sumisip, Basilan, the 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion together with the Civilian Active Auxiliary (CAA) recovered one unit of 7.62mm single shot rifle, shotgun, BDA uniform, assorted ammunition and an Icom radio in Brgy. Abong Abong in the municipality of Maluso, Basilan.

WestMinCom also confirmed that soldiers from the 15th Special Forces Company recovered one M16 and M1 garand, magazines and bandolier that were kept hidden inside a sack which was left in the mangrove are of Langas Island, Maluso.

Before the recovery of weapons by the 15th Special Forces Company, some residents spotted two male individuals who brought with them the sack and one of the male was believed to be wounded.


The Philippine military believed that the two male individuals were members of the Basilan based Abu Sayyaf sub-leader Furuji Indama who had an encounter with the military during the past few days in Barangay Cabcaban, Sumisip, Basilan.

Gen. Galvez noted during an interview with Bombo Radyo that the Philippine military continued its operations against the members of the terrorist group Abu Sayyaf in the southern areas of the Philippines.

The WestMinCom Chief was quoted as saying "We will continue to gain grounds in the previous lairs and bailiwicks of the Abu Sayyaf. We will be more aggressively implementing both our lethal and non-lethal operations against them especially that we now have evidence that the bandits are also engage in the illegal drug trade," Gen. Galvez stated.
