104 Repatriated OFWs from Saudi Gets P10,000 Each from Duterte Admin

The administration of Pres. Rody Duterte allocates a total of P10,000 each for the 140 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who were granted amnesty by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The P10,000 cash incentives were given to the benificiaries as they arrived int he country before dawn Monday, April 17, 2017.

Out of the 140 undocumented OFWs there were 65 women, 55 men, and 20 children from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. They landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 (NAIA-T1) a few minutes before Pres. Duterte's landed.

According to Pres. Rody Duterte on his arrival statement, the cash assistance is just a small token of appreciation to the OFWs who sacrificed many years of their lives to work in the Middle East.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) earlier promised to give P5,000 each to the 140 undocumented OFWs but Pres. Rody Duterte added another P5,000 for their "baon."

Secretary Silvestre Bello III of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) explained that the additional P5,000 would not be coming out of Pres. Rody Duterte's own pocket but from the national government.

The Pres. Duterte also stated that "I am thankful that you got home safely. You may now be with your family and loved ones. We know your hard work and sacrifice,” he said after abandoning more than half of his five-page prepared speech.

He also thanked the OFWs for keeping the economy afloat through their remittance. Pres. Duterte was quoted as saying "They helped us very much. Nagpapadala sila ng steady income na mga remittances nila, so kailangan magbayad tayo at malaki ang binibigay ng Overseas Workers.
