Sen. Pimentel Confirms Sen. De Lima Could Be Jailed in Ordinary Prison Once Proven Guilty (Video)

Senate President Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel confirmed during an ambush interview that Senator Leila De Lima could be jailed in ordinary prison once proven guilty by a court of law. Sen. Leila De Lima has four pending criminal cases on her alleged link with drug trade at the New Bilibid Prison.

Sen. Pimentel explained during an interview that the cases filed against Sen. De Lima are criminal cases and once the regular court issues a warrant of arrest involves imprisonment of more than six (6) years then there's no exemption even if you are a lawmaker.

When asked if the case of Sen. De Lima could be directly given to a regular court, Sen. Pimentel confirmed that the prosecutor will file which will surpassed the petition recently filed by Sen. De Lima to the Court of Appeals (CA).

Sen. De Lima urged the Court of Appeals (CA) to act with dispatch on her petition stopping the Department of Justice (DOJ) from acting on the four cases lodged against her in relation to her alleged link with drug trade at the New Bilibid Prison.

The controversial senator noted that CA needs to take swift action as she received reliable information that the DOJ is rushing the resolution of the four cases filed against her and bring them to regular courts, bypassing the Ombudsman and the Sandiganbayan.

According to Sen. Pimentel's explanation the case filed against Sen. De Lima is never in relation to her office and drug dealings is never in relation to her office.

The senator also noted that although they enjoy some immunity but once it is more than six years, even the privilege from arrest they do not enjoy.
