Sen. De Lima Arrested by CIDG at the Senate Brought to Camp Crame for Booking (Video)


The controversial senator of the Republic, Senator Leila De Lima was finally arrested after a failed attempt to arrest her yesterday afternoon. She was arrested early morning on Friday, February 24, 2017 at the Philippine Senate and was brought to Camp Crame for booking procedures.


Muntinlupa RTC Branch 204 Judge Juanita Guerrero ordered De Lima's arrest after it cited probable cause for charges against the Senator, accused to have abetted the illegal drug trade in the New Bilibid Prison while she was Secretary of Justice from 2010 to 2015.

The Department of Justice headed by Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre revealed that the DOJ filed three criminal charges against Sen. De Lima last February 17, for allegedly violating the Comprehensive Drugs Act of 2002.

Cases filed by the DOJ against former DOJ Secretary now Senator De Lima are non-bailable and are punishable with reclusion perpetua or life imprisonment. Sen. De Lima's co-accused, Ronnie Dayan, her former bodyguard and partner was already arrested yesterday in Pangasinan and will be brought to Manila today.

Last night in an emotional press conference held at the Senate Hall, Sen. De Lima said she would not hide and would wait at the Senate for the arresting team.

During the press conference she thanked her Liberal partymates for standing by her and also acknowledged her supporters and alluded to recent events wherein detainees had been killed while behind bars.
