DSWD Activates Quick Response Team to Monitor & Give Assistance to Surigao City Earthquake Victims


The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in CARAGA Region activated its Quick Response Team (QRT) to monitor the status of the victims of the 6.7 earthquake that hts Surigao City, Surigao del Norte last night.



DSWD Caraga OIC Regional Director Mita Chuchi Gupana-Lim and other DSWD personnel from the national office is currently in Surigao City to monitor the areas affected by the earthquake that hits around 10:03 PM on Friday, February 10, 2016.

According to Caraga Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, three people died while 80 were injured. They also revealed that a bridge collapsed, some roads sustained cracks and were not passable, and residential houses and some commercial buildings were damaged.

As of press time, the City of Surigao experienced blackouts, casualty, damaged to properties and injuries. DSWD-Caraga has prepositioned 8,258 Famiy Food Packs to geographically hard-to-reach areas.


DSWD Caraga also confirmed that as of press time, the Regional Warehouse has a stockpile of 14,637 family food packs. The Field Office of the DSWD has standby fund amounting to Php 2,895,921.91.

The OIC Regional Director of DSWD Caraga Mita Chuchi G. Lim, COD Angelita Amista and DRROO Focal Ms Caroline Catalan are in Surigao City to conduct monitoring and damaged assessment.

The SWAD Teams, Provincial/City/Municipality are instructed to monitor the situation and closely coordinate with the Local Social Welfare and Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office and provide report to Field Office.
