UP Doctor Gives Unsolicited Advice to VP Leni Robredo Not to Fake Social Graces

A University of the Philippines' Doctor made some headlines on social media after she gave unsolicited advice to Vice President Leni Robredo who keeps herself visible in various news media interviews. The UP doctor identified as Dr. Ethel Pineda condemned VP Leni Robredo for faking social graces.

According to Pineda social graces, good manners and right conduct could not be fake, they are manifestations of genuine concern for people as what Pres. Rody Duterte did and not what VP Robredo's PR Team is doing right now.

The concerned netizen noted that social grace is not making chika, pa-cute, sugar-coating words that ingratiate. It is knowing what is right, and acting on it without calling attention to one's self.

Ethel Pineda added further that it is not about walking barefoot in the mountains, or waiting for a bus where there is no proper bus stop, or leaving one's hometown before a storm hits for a family reunion abroad. The doctor stated that what VP Leni is doing is what would some people calls dereliction and not social grace.

Here's the Complete Statement of Dr. Ethel Pineda:

Because "social graces," good manners and right conduct fail as mere veneers. You can't fake them. They are manifestations of genuine concern for people. Social grace is not making chika, pa-cute, sugar-coating words that ingratiate. It is knowing what is right, and acting on it without calling attention to one's self.

It is not walking barefoot in the bukid. Definitely not waiting for the bus where there is no proper bus stop. It is not leaving for a family reunion when a typhoon threatens one's constituents. That's not social grace. Na-ah. (Some would call that dereliction.)

President Duterte is rough, uncouth, bastos? That is not what the lumads think. Not the victims of Yolanda. Not the farmers who will get free irrigation. Not the women who will be relieved from the burden of conceiving more children than they can take care of and what their bodies can bear. Not the people who live in constant fear of the drug monsters in their neighborhood.

Social grace is knowing one's proper place. Not coveting power. Not plotting for failure of someone who was given the trust and mandate by the majority. It is honoring the will of the people.

Ms. Robredo should take a good look at herself before she demands respect. Her followers should stop short changing themselves. They've stumbled into a fool's gold. Tanso.
