Sen. Bam Aquino Admits He Had Nothing to Do with Free Tuition for SUCs

One of the remaining Aquino family member in the Legislative Department of the Philippines, Sen. Bam Aquino finally admitted that he had nothing to do with free tuition in State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in 2017, after being called out on social media.

Sen. Aquino made a press release through his office which was issued on Sunday, he admitted his bill to provide free tuition in SUCs has not been passed at all.

According to Sen. Bam Aquino "We're hoping we can pass this by February or March in time for June school year at para libre na ang college tuition every school year," the senator said during a media interview in Tuguegarao City.

Although the senator back-tracked from his camp's previous statement that he was responsible for the free tuition, the senator still claimed that many senators are "supporting" his bill for "libreng tuition fee," which was also uncovered by some netizens as a copy-cat of Sen. Marcos bill last 2015.

The P8.3 billion funds for SUCs free tuition came from the previous pork in the DPWH budget and which was later realign by the Philippine Senate under the Duterte administration.

For the very first time in the history of the Philippines, only President Rody Duterte really cared for the poor by providing an ample budget for education. Sen. Bam Aquino on his part claimed that he was responsible for the free tuition because of Senate Bill No. 177 or the Free Higher Education for All Act giving free tuition fee to all students in SUCs.
