9,518 Housing Units for Bantayan Island's Yolanda Victims to Proceed After Pres. Aquino's Failure

The construction of the 9,518 housing units for the victims of super typhoon Yolanda will now continue after the failure of former President Aquino to finish the construction project.

Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Michael Dino visited Bantayan island and made some effort to clear the problems faced by the Aquino administration.

The Cabinet secretary of Pres. Rody Duterte, Michael Dino was ordered by the President to make sure that all Yolanda housing projects in the Visayas will be completed before Christmas. The order of the President came after he visited Tacloban and saw the failure of the his housing czar VP Leni Robredo to speed up the construction.

The housing project in Bantayan Island, one of the heavily affected communities during the onslaught of super typhoon Yolanda will now proceed after the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 28 directed the DENR to resume the issuance of certificates on non-coverage of and environmental compliance certificates on all constructions and projects in Bantayan Island.

Under the court order a total of 9,518 housing units for Yolanda survivors can now be built by developers accredited by the National Housing Authority (NHA) without any legal impediment.

The 9,518 Housing units for Bantayan Island are divided into three municipalities as follow:
  1. Municipality of Bantayan = 3,520 housing units
  2. Municipality of Madridejos (Lawis) = 3,693 housing units
  3. Municipality of Sta. Fe = 2,305 housing units
During the administration of former Pres. Aquino not a single house has been completed three years after super typhoon Yolanda struck on November 8, 2013. The Duterte administration even tasked Vice Pres. Leni Robredo as head of the National Housing Authority but she also failed despite her connections with the Liberal Party.

Pres. Duterte then ordered one of his ally in the Visayas, Martin Dino who personally visited the island and made ways to continue the construction project.

Nine days after the visit of Martin Dino in Bantayan island, a court order was released which will pave the way for the construction of the houses for the families displaced by the typhoon.
