Goverment Forces vs. Maute Group Death Toll Rises to 35


The death toll in the fighting between government forces and the Maute group claimed a total of 35 terrorists being killed and at least 13 government soldiers wounded in Butlig, Lanao del Sur.


 The Maute group captured the old municipal building in Butlig, but the new municipal building is still under the control of the government.

Pres. Rody Duterte already confirmed during a speech in Iloilo City that the Maute Group is indeed linked to international terrorist group, ISIS.

Government troops mostly from the Philippine Army's 103rd Infantry Brigade poured more troops into the battle area as artillery and close air support from helicopter gunships continued to pound the terrorist positions.


The fighting between the Philippine Army against the estimated 50-100 Maute group members started Saturday after the terrorist group uprooted some 16,000 residents in Butig town.

The Maute Group made an encountered against the Philippine military during the year 2013, when a government checkpoint was attacked in Madalum town, Lanao del Sur.

The group was also involved in the recent Davao bombings a few months ago, the group also made some test missions to get recognition from ISIS.
