Former Pres. Marcos Buried at Libingan ng mga Bayani in Surprise Rite


Former President Ferdinand E. Marcos was finally laid to rest at the Libingan ng mga Bayani to the surprise both from the camps of Marcos and the camps of those who are against the burial. The late President was buried at around noon Friday, November 18, 2016.


The body of Pres. Marcos was flown from Laoag, Ilocos Norte, the remains arrived at the Libingan ng mga Bayani past 11:30 AM, with the burial rites conducted shortly after.

According to NCRPO Chief Director Oscar Albayalde revealed that they met with Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos on Thursday night, where they were informed about the decision.

During the burial of Pres. Marcos at the Libingan, media coverage where not allowed inside the cemetery. The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said that the Marcos Family requested that it "be a private burial... held in confidentiality."


In a report posted by Reuters, military spokesman Col. Edgard Arevalo said "the will of the Marcos family" had to be respected after they requested a simple, private ceremony.

Some videos taken from the gates of the Libingan showed that the President's children, Bongbong, and Irene, and other close family members were walking behind the hearse that carried the co***n, draped in the Philippine flag.

The burial rites of Pres. Marcos was backed by no less than President Duterte himself who is now in Peru for the APEC Summit. The ceremony was held 10 days after the Supreme Court ruled to dismiss the consolidated petitions seeking to stop it, voting 9-5-1.

The late President Marcos was accorded with military honors, including a 21-gun salute.
