CIDG Chief Inspector Laraga Tagged Ormoc Mayor Richard Gomez Having Linked to Espinosa Drug Group


Veteran actor and newly-elected Mayor of Ormoc City, Richard Gomez was tagged by the police officer who led the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) team that raided the cell of the late Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa.

CIDG Team leader Chief Inspector Leo Laraga identified Richard Gomez as one of the politician allegedly involved in the so-called Espinosa drug group, during the Senate hearing investigating the controversial operations of the CIDG killing Mayor Espinosa in the process.

During the Senate hearing, Chief Inspector Leo Laraga revealed that the CIDG had to apply for search warrant in Samar province because there were some local politician in Leyte involved in the drug operations of Espinosa.

Chief Inspector Laraga was quoted as saying "[May] mga personality na involved doon sa Espinosa drug group mismo galing din ito sa region na  nabanggit na rin ito ni late Mayor Espinosa regarding doon sa mga politiko na involved and at the same time, 'yung mga nasa PNP," Laraga said.


"Yung sa Baybay City is involved. 'Yung vice mayor ng Baybay City, allegedly 'yung governor ng Leyte, the mayor of Ormoc City, and the congressmen of the third district of Leyte." Laraga said.

At first the CIDG team leader refursed to name some individuals involved in the illegal drug trades but Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III insisted that Laraga name the politicians, saying the investigation is in aid of legislation.

According to Laraga he was referring to Baybay Vice Mayor Mike Cari, Rep. Vicente Veloso, Leyte Governor Leopoldo Petilla, and Ormoc Mayor Richard Gomez.
