House of Representatives Prepares Probe on Sen. De Lima's Involvement in NBP's Drug Problems


The Senate started its investigation on alleged extra-judicial killings of drug suspects on Monday headed by Sen. Leilia De Lima but the House of Representatives announced also that will be conducting probe on Sen. De Lima's alleged involvement on proliferation of illegal drugs at the National Bilibid Prison (NBP).


Sen. Leilia De Lima who served as Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary during the Aquino administration will be investigated by the members of the Lower House to find out more information about the alleged involvement in the rampant problems inside the NBP.

The probe on the senator's involvement on Bilibid's problems came after Pres. Rody Duterte revealed to the media that the driver of Sen. De Lima allegedly collected drug money from the national penitentiary during her stint at the DOJ.

According to Davao City Rep. Karlo Nograles the House inquiry hoped to find out how drugs were manufactured at the Bilibid and the connection of certain personalities in the illegal activity inside one of the country's supposedly most secured prison facility.

Batangas Rep. Raneo Abu on his part wanted to focus on a raid at the national penitentiary, during that particular raid a makeshift shabu laboratory, high-powered firearms, improvised weapons, and several luxury items were found.

A House of Representatives resolution was filed by Rep. Abu and Nograles also wanted to invite a convicted drug lords currently detained at the NBP to serve as resource persons. The congressmen even noted that they are willing to conduct the investigations inside the NBP if the convicts cannot be brought outside.
