Talk N' Text taps NBA D-League Co-MVP Othyus Jeffers as import in the Governor's Cup

The Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters are not letting their guards down in the next conference despite getting undefeated throughout the semifinals of the PLDT Home TVolution Commissioner’s Cup and is waiting in the Finals against whoever makes it to the Finals between San Mig Coffee and Air 21 who will slug it out in a do-or-die game five on Wednesday.

Talk N' Text is showing great because of impressive performance from NBA D-League standout Richard Howell who is their reinforcement in the current season.

Withstanding the current success, Talk ‘N Text is not yet contented and will ride on that in the upcoming Governors’ Cup after signing NBA D-League star Othyus Jeffers to reinforce the team in the season-ending conference.

Jeffers shared Most Valuable Player honors in the NBA D-League this past season with Ron Howard.

Jeffers is an NBA veteran who played for the Utah Jazz, San Antonio Spurs, the Washington Wizards and lately, the Minnesota Timberwolves in a total of 37 games.

Talk N' Text coach Norman Black even  described him as an “all-around player”.

The 6"5 Jeffers has NBA averages of 3.8 points, 1..6 rebounds and 11.9 minutes and is not only known for his offensive prowess, he is also a reliable defender.

And he is expected to bring that defensive skills to a Tropang Texters squad that has yet to lose a game in the Commissioner’s Cup.

The Chicago, Illinois, native has been named to the NBA D-League All-Defensive team twice (2011 and 2014) and is a three-time D-League All-Star as well.
The 210-pound Jeffers played in 44 of the Iowa Energy’s 50 regular season games before earning a call-up to the Timberwolves early last April.
The wide-bodied Jeffers averaged a team-high 20.9 points, eighth-best in the NBA D-League, along with 9.9 rebounds and 2.2 steals. He led Iowa in scoring 20 times and was the team’s top rebounder in 20 games.
Jeffers playing in the PBA before?

Jeffers was supposed to play in the PBA last year, but negotiations with another team didn't push through.

“I’ve been approached some years ago to come and play here in the Philippines. But this team is really persistent in bringing me here, so I’m glad for the opportunity,” Jeffers told in an exclusive interview.

“I’ve done my research before I came here. It’s a very good organization, the team is really good and I’m glad to be a part of it.”

Jeffers has caught a glimpse of PBA action, and knows what to expect.

“The games are a lot physical, it reminded me of the games played in Chicago,” he said.

He hopes to duplicate the success of the Tropang Texters with Howell when he suits up next conference.

“Hopefully, we can continue to win. This team has a rich tradition and I’ll be glad to add on to it,” he said.

With Jeffers addition to TNT next conference, the Tropang Texters are surely a team to beat in the season-ending tournament.
