Knuttel was cheered by the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel faithful when the rookie guard checked in in the game and made his first appearance in the league after serving in the reserve list for the past two conferences.
Knuttel was drafted in the sixth round and is a practice player before this conference, however he has been a favorite of Gin Kings fans because of his model good looks.
But the former Far Eastern University stalwart from Zamboanga wants to prove that it's not only his good look is his asset, his also a canny basketball player.
“I may look glamour, but I’m not a glamour boy inside the court,” Knuttel told InterAksyon in an exclusive interview.
“They can expect me to become a hard-nosed defender, a court leader, setting up my teammates.”
Knuttel was finally given a chance in the Ginebra roster and was activated to the lineup after fellow rookie James Forrester suffered a knee injury that would keep him out for the rest of the season.
New Ginebra coach Jeffrey Cariaso informed Knuttel about the move prior to Ginebra’s opening match against GlobalPort in the PLDT Home Telpad Governors’ Cup.
“He told me I’m not sure if you can play, but I’m trying to activate you. After our practice we picked my license sa GAB so I was able to play,” said Knuttel.
But for Cariaso it was an easy decision as he wants to give chances for the hardworking players.
“He’s one of those hardworking players,” said Cariaso. “I like the attitude I’m seeing.”
He was also glad for the heartwarming support of Ginebra fans to him.
“First of all, I know that Ginebra fans are super crazy. When they learned that I will be playing, my Twitter and Instagram were going bananas I can’t even view the notifications anymore. I’m very thankful they’re here to support me,” said Knuttel.
“It’s just all a dream. Now, I’m playing and I’m just grabbing the opportunity.”
With the chance that Ginebra has given to Knuttel, expect him to show his staffs as soon as possible as only few players has been given a chance to play for the league's most popular franchise.
