Barako Bull bringing in second-generation import Eric Wise in the Governor's Cup

After a disappointing campaign in the PLDT Home TVolution Commissioner’s Cup, Barako Bull Energy is now setting their feet in the upcoming PBA Governor's Cup.

With this, Barako Bull signed Eric Wise as their reinforcement in the season-ending tournament.

Wise is set to become a rare second-generation import to play in the PBA when he arrives to play for the Energy in the import-spiced tournament.

No other than Barako Bull team manager Raffy Casyao confirmed to Spin.ph that Wise, son of former U-Tex Wranglers forward Francois Wise, is set to arrive on Wednesday afternoon and will join the team in practice the following day.

However, Casyao immediately made it clear that the Energy took in Wise not because of his pedigree or the history he is bound to make but because of the skills that he can bring to the team.

“We took in Wise because we need a big man that can play 4 and 5 as (center) Dorian (Pena) is injured,” said Casyao. “Hopefully, he can fill up our rebounding woes.”

Wise Career

Wise is an NCAA standout who played for the University of Southern California Trojans after an impressive stint with the University of California-Irvine Anteaters where he ranked 11th in the school's all-time scoring list with 1,280 points and 15th overall in rebounding with 533.

Listed at 6-6 in the US NCAA, Wise is known to be a banger and a workhorse with an uncanny ability to get to the freethrow line - not surprisingly the same qualities that made his father one of the best remembered imports to suit up in the local pro league.

Wise had a brief stint with the Iowa Energy in the NBA D-League before he was acquired by the AS Soleuvre team in Luxembourg, where he averaged 28.8 points, 11.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.

Wise will be the seventh import confirmed to play in the coming Governors’ Cup, which is set to open on the third week of the month.

Already listed to play are Bill Walker (Alaska), Othyus Jeffers (Talk N’ Text), Marqus Blakely (San Mig Coffee), Elijah Millsap (San Miguel), Zaccheus Mason (Ginebra) and Arizona Reid (Rain or Shine).

Jeffers, Reid, Blakely and Reid are already in the country.

While GlobalPort and Air 21 are still searching for an import in the upcoming conference.
