Philippine Girls Team narrowly loss to Brazil in the 2014 Street Child World Cup Finals



The Philippine Girls Team didn't thought that they could go as far as this in the 2014 Street Child World Cup.

But they showed that with share determination and the "the heart" that the Filipinos are will known will make their dreams do come true.

Even though the girls team yielded a 1-nil result to host Brazil and settle for second place in the 2014 Street Child World Cup girls’ tournament finals on Sunday (Monday morning Philippine time) in Rio de Janeiro, it was still a great team for the homeless team.

“Gutted. But so proud of the girls,” said team leader and head coach Roy Moore on his Twitter account of the squad which is composed of players from Payatas FC, SOS Village of Davao, Gawad Kalinga, Mango, and Josie’s Angels.

Impressive Showing

Although they finished second, it was still a good achievement for the team as they were not expected to go as far as this.

It capped an impressive performance for the Filipinas, who swept their earlier matches against South Africa (9-nil), El Salvador (3-1), England (6-0), and Mozambique (1-nil) to reach the tournament final.

The Boys team also had an impressive performance for as they reached the quarterfinals but fell short to Pakistan in penalties.

Tanzania is the champion of the Boys

Meanwhile, Tanzania clinched the boys’ tournament crown after beating Burundi, 3-1.

The tournament, played in the same year as the FIFA World Cup, aims to gather street children around the world to have their voices and concerns heard through football.
