Talk N' Text combo Jason Castro and Ranidel de Ocampo now lead BPC race after the quarterfinals

With the PLDT Home TVolution Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinal round over, new leaders emerge for the Best Player of the Conference battle.

Gilas mainstays Jayson Castro and Ranidel De Ocampo of top seed Talk ‘N Text now leads the race after great showings in the quarterfinal round.

"The Blur" Castro is now the leading candidate with an average of 30.2 statistical points after tallying 13.3 points, 4.7 assists, and 3.7 rebounds per game in the Tropang Texters’ first 10 games, all victories.

De Ocampo is just a breath away from his teammate with a 30 SPs average after leading Talk ‘N Text locals at 15.5 points per game.

June Mar Fajardo's dream to repeat as the BPC won't happen after the San Miguel Beer imposing big man slide to no. 3 after earning 29.8 SPs despite finishing the elimination at the top.

Fajardo's frontcourt mate Arwind Santos also went down to no. 4  with 29.1 SPs after finishing second in the eliminations.

The Beermen big men are not expected to contend further after the second seed Beermen were knocked out in the quarterfinals by underdog Air 21.

Leading the Express charge was Asi Taulava, who is currently fifth in the BPC race at 27.9 average SPs after posting 13 points and 10 rebounds per game through the quarters.

Rounding out the top 10 are Meralco’s Gary David (26.5 SPs), Rain or Shine’s Paul Lee (25.6 SPs), San Miguel Beer’s Marcio Lassiter (25.3 SPs) and Chris Ross (24.4), and Barangay Ginebra San Miguel’s Greg Slaughter (24 SPs).

Best Import Race

Meanwhile, Talk ‘N Text’s all-around reinforcement Richard Howell leads the Best Import race after earning 53.4 statistical points.

San Miguel’s Kevin Jones with 50.9 SPs is at distant second, followed by Meralco’s Darnell Jackson (49.8).

And with the Beermen and the Bolts getting eliminated in the quarters, Howell will now have a greater chance of earning the award.

Aside from SPs, which comprise 40 percent of the tabulation, votes from the media (30 percent), the players (25 percent) and the Commissioner’s Office (five percent) are major factors that determine the award.
