Adamson star Jericho Cruz is arguably one of the most sought-after star in the UAAP.
And now, Cruz is making a name for himself in the PBA D-League while playing for Blackwater Sports.
Cruz undecided to turn pro
With Blackwater's bid to become a PBA expansion team approved, Cruz is a potential candidate to be a direct-hire for the Elite.
The PBA said it is open to the possibility of giving a direct-hire concession — initially not given to the Blackwater Sports, NLEX, and Kia when their membership was approved — so that they could form a competitive team.
But the Adamson go-to-guy is still undecided on whether to return to the Falcons for another season in the UAAP or join the PBA as his D-League ballclub Blackwater Sports moves up to the professional ranks.
Cruz, a one-time national team member, is also considering joining this year’s PBA rookie draft although he has spent just two season so far in the premier collegiate league.
Team owner Dioceldo Sy is eyeing Cruz as a one of the players to be part of the direct hire recruit.
“Right now, pinag-iisipan ko po ng mabuti,” said Cruz to Spin.ph.
”Whatever good opportunities come first, I will take it.”
Cruz, a member of the gold medal-winning national team in the 2013 Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar, is playing in his second conference with Blackwater Sports after being drafted by the team last year.
Prior to joining Blackwater, Cruz topscored for the Falcons last season with 14.5 points per game, while also averaging 4.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists that year.
Adamson, however, missed the Final Four with a 4-10 record in the final year of Leo Austria as Falcons head coach.
Adamson legend and former PBA MVP Kenneth Duremdes was hired to replace Austria for the coming season. Sy wants to unretire Duremdes, along with Marlou Aquino, who will become veteran key players for Blackwater in their maiden campaign in the 2014 PBA Governor's Cup. --- with reports from Spin.ph
