Michael Farenas fights former Manny Pacquaio victim Hector Velasquez for the WBC Asian Boxing Super-featherweight title

Promising Filipino boxer Michael Farenas will face an acid test in former Manny Pacquaio victim Hector Velasquez in a 12-round fight for the World Boxing Council (WBC) Asian Boxing super-featherweight title this Friday at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Farenas holds a record of 37 wins,4 losses and 4 draws with 29 knockouts while the veteran Velazquez has 56 wins, 20 losses and 3 draws slate with 38 KOs.
The event is sponsored by CherrylumE, DIY (Do It Yourself) Hardware, and Harrix Wires and Cables, and will be aired on GMA 7 on March 22 immediately after Eat Bulaga.
Farenas most regarded fight
Farenas most fight fight was when he dueled  with highly regarded Yuriorkis Gamboa in a 12 round battle for the interim WBA strap on December 8, 2012 in the undercard of Pacquaio-Marquez 4.

Gamboa, not respecting Farenas, was show boating throughout the fight while Farenas maintained his focus. Farenas was dropped twice which gave more confidence to Gamboa dropping his hands occasionally.

On the 9th round Gamboa tried to finish of Farenas with a barrage of punches but Farenas countered him with a left hook that dropped Gamboa.

Gamboa stopped show boating after and tried to be careful until the final bell.

Farenas lost via unanimous decision but opened a lot of eyes for the boxing fans due to his gutsy effort.
Farenas' latest surge
Farenas has demolished  his last three opponents in a combined five rounds which speaks volumes about his punching power.
His last victory was a two-round stoppage of Jesus Rios in the main event of Philippines versus Mexico: First Blood, which was the first event of MAG Pacman Boxing Promotions.
“Handang handa na ako sa laban,” Farenas said. “Alam kong hindi basta-basta si Velazquez pero gagawin ko ang lahat para mapatumba siya.”
The Mexican, who arrived in Manila last week, is known to be as tough as nails and never backed down whoever his opponents.
He fought Pacquiao back in 2005 and took all his might but couldn't handle the attacks of the Filipino boxing icon. Pacquaio eventually won by stoppage in the 6th round.
Featured Bouts
In the undercard, Dave Penalosa (7-0-0, 5 KOs) will try to accomplish something his brother Dodie Boy Penalosa, Jr., did not and that is to knock out the tough Alem Robles (6-4-2, 2 KOs) who also hails from Mexico.
Velazquez, Farenas, and the rest of the fighters in the card will weigh in on March 20 at the Lancaster Hotel Manila, the event's official hotel.
The weigh in proceedings will start at 10 am.
