Melton and Aguilar will challenge Ellis for the Slamdunk Crown; Tiu and Villanueva will defend the three point contest and obstacle challenge respectively, in the 2014 PBA All-Star

Last Year, Chris Ellis wowed the fans with his breathtaking dunks in route to winning the 2013 PBA Slamdunk crown.

But this year, another set of high-flying dunkers will challenge the Barangay Ginebra forward for the coveted crown when he defends his slam dunk title in the PBA All-Star Weekend at Mall of Asia Arena.




Melton and Aguilar’s Challenge

San Mig Super Coffee Mixers rookie Justin Melton and teammate Japeth Aguilar will challenge ‘Air Force’ Ellis for the crown he won last year in Digos City, Davao Del Norte.

Melton, dubbed as “Quickmelt” by sports scribes, stands only 5-9 but he surprised fans with his high-leaping ability while Aguilar is already considered a highlight-reel guy ever since his college days.

Other dunkers who will challenge Ellis are former NCAA slam dunk champion Rey Guevarra and Cliff Hodge of the Meralco Bolts, “Spiderman ” Arwind Santos of San Miguel Beer, and Calvin ” The Beast” Abueva of the Alaska Aces.


Three-Point Contest

Rain Shine spitfire guard Chris Tiu will also have a stiff challenge in defending his three-point shootout title against the top gunners of the PBA.



Former champion James Yap of San Mig Coffee and scoring champion Gary David of Meralco lead the field, which also includes Larry Fonacier of Talk ‘N Text, Mac Baracael of Ginebra, Mac Cardona of Air 21, JVee Casio of Alaska, Mark Macapagal of GlobalPort, Ronjay Buenafe of Barako Bull, and Marcio Lassiter of San Miguel Beer.

Obstacle Challenge

Air 21′s Jonas Villanueva, meanwhile, will use his experience and precise passing as goes for another win in the obstacle race.



The challengers include Casio, Willie Miller of Barako Bull, LA Tenorio of Ginebra, Terrence Romeo of GlobalPort, John Wilson of Meralco, Paul Lee of Rain or Shine, Sol Mercado of San Miguel Beer, Mark Barroca of San Mig Coffee, and Jayson Castro of Talk ‘N Text.

The All-Star festivities will be held from April 3 to 6 at Mall of Asia Arena.
