“Gusto ko makuha 'yung grand slam, pero siyempre sobrang hirap rin 'yan kasi paghahandaan ka na nila, at saka pag-aaralan ka nila ngayon ng mabuti,” said Marc Pingris on San Mig's bid for a three-peat

Pinoy Sakuragi wants to make history by winning a third straight PBA championship.

But Marc Pingris also the first one to admit that it will be a daunting task.

“Gusto ko makuha 'yung grand slam, pero siyempre sobrang hirap rin 'yan kasi paghahandaan ka na nila, at saka pag-aaralan ka nila ngayon ng mabuti,” said Pingris.

Bagging a third consecutive league title won't necessarily mean a grand slam for Pingris and San Mig since a grand slam entails winning all three conference titles in a single season.

Nonetheless, the San Mig franchise has yet to win three titles in a row in its 26 years in the league - a goal which now serves as motivation for Pingris in the PBA Commissioner's Cup.

But again, Pingris knows it would be like going through the proverbial eye of a needle.

“Bukod sa maraming mga players ang magpapakita ng best nila, pisikal din ang mga iyan (imports). Siyempre, karamihan sa kanila galing sa NBA or (NBA) D-League,” said the 32-year-old many-time All-defensive team member about the import-laden conference.

Pingris went straight to San Mig’s victory party following a short, three-day vacation in Cebu after playing a huge role in the team’s successful title conquest in the Philippine Cup that saw the Mixers dispose of Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in six games.

He said the brief break allowed his body to recover from the rigors of playing non-stop basketball beginning with Gilas Pilipinas in last year’s Fiba-Asia Men’s Championship all the way to the all-Filipino Finals.

“Kailangang alagaan mo ang katawan mo, kasi useless yung magdasal ka na maging healthy ka tapos gigimik ka pa. Kaya ako, ginagawa ko, kumakain ako ng maayos saka laging nagpapa-kundisyon,” Pingris added.

San Mig's quest for a third straight crown is duable but expect a tough challenge from other PBA teams who want to deny them of another title.

San Mig will rely again on Pingris, reigning Finals' MVP Marc Barocca, the Scoring Apostle Peter June Simon, Big Game James Yap along with its reinforcement James Mays in its their campaign in the Commissioner's Cup.
