GlobalPort owner shows interest in reuniting Dylan Ababou with coach Pido Jarencio

Dylan Ababou is always on the trade block but Ginebra is also denying the rumors.

But GlobalPort Batang Pier team owner Mikee Romero admitted his interest in Dylan Ababou, but made it clear that no deal for the rarely used Ginebra player is in the works.

For the past week now, Ababou has become the subject of several trade rumors online and while much of the reports are unfounded, Romero has made no secret of the fact that he is willing to jump at the chance to get the former Smart Gilas mainstay.

Asked by Spin.ph on how interested he is in Ababou, Romero gave a quick response: “Very much (interested in him). Pero he’s with another team. Kaya I don’t know kung (pwede).”

Jarencio's relationship with Ababou

New coach Pido Jarencio is very please if the move to get Ababou pushes through.

Jarencio is the coach of the 27-year-old guard/forward in the University of Santo Tomas that stunned Ateneo in the UAAP Finals of 2006.

“Syempre, kung may chance bakit hindi," said Jarencio of a reunion with Ababou. "Pero sa ngayon wala pa kaming napapag-usapan na ganyan ni boss Mikee.”

“Sa ngayon talaga, wala. Pero kung may statement na ganyan si Boss Mikee, pag may time siya, pwedeng pag-usapan na namin para malaman ko na kung ano ang pwede kong gawin,” he added.

Ababou has yet to regain a place in the Ginebra rotation since being sidelined by an ACL injury last year, seeing limited action in a lineup loaded with talent in his position.

Ababou almost traded in the offseason

The former Tigers star almost got traded in the offseason when Ginebra acquired the No. 4 pick overall in the last PBA rookie draft which the Kings used to tab James Forrester.

Fortunately for him, the deal was tweaked at the last minute, with Willy Wilson and Rico Maierhofer ending up being shipped to Barako Bull.

GlobalPort's Chemistry

Romero can't wait for the chance to get his hands on Ababou, but he insisted his priority right now is to see his rejuvenated team build chemistry in the PBA Commissioner's Cup.

“We’re not trading any player at this point - we want to build our chemistry first,” said Romero.

And chemistry is what the Batang Pier lacks right now as what we have witnessed in their 2-loss games this conference.
