Aldrech Ramos might be used sitting in the bench before and not given enough playing time, but when opportunities show, he can deliver instantly.
The sweet-shooting big man out of Far Eastern University delivered big numbers en route to a 17-point performance in Air21’s 103-85 rout of Barako Bull on Friday night.
Ramos was the second leading scorer in that game for Air21 behind import Herve Lamizana's 30-point explosion. the 6"7 Ramos shot a perfect 4-of-4 from three-point territory even though he only had three days to practice with his new team since being traded by Alaska for Vic Manuel.
The Cebu native credited the newfound confidence he got from Air21 coach Franz Pumaren for his high-impact debut in an Express uniform on Friday night.
“Actually, yung ibang plays di ko pa alam, pero sabi kasi ni coach basta open ako, i-tira ko lang,” said Ramos, the fifth pick overall of the 2012 rookie draft who has been involved in trades that saw him move from Barako Bull to San Mig to Alaska and now to Air21.
“Siyempe, sobrang happy ako, biruin mo, first game, blessed agad ng ganun saka may minutes din agad,” added the former Gilas big man.
Although he has been tapped to fill the vacant spot left by Nino Canaleta, who Air21 traded last conference for Sean Anthony and rookie Eliud Poligrates, Ramos said he is not out to replace the sweet-shooting forward.
“Mahirap magsalita ng ganyan, pero basta every game go hard lang ako, di ko naman mare-replace ang isang KG (Canaleta’s nickname),” said the 25-year-old, who gets the chance to play against his former team Alaska on Monday.
Expect Ramos to finally show his strats with how confident coach Pumaren has in him.
