Alaska showed no sign of last year's championship team, but coach Luigi Trillo stays positive

Alaska Aces has not shown why they are the defending champions in the PLDT Home TVolution Commissioner’s Cup.

The Aces has lost three of its first four games but head coach Luigi Trillo is staying positive even after his team’s latest setback against Rain or Shine.

“I’d like to look again at the positives. There are some things that we could have done there. We could have kept a good job on Jeff Chan, he went berserk. We missed 15 free throws. These things needed to be looked back. But we’ve got five more games, it’s a ton of games in basketball,” Trillo told InterAksyon.com.

Trillo admitted that they are not the same team when the Aces won the Commissioner’s Cup title, but he could only hope they’ve learned their lessons and seek good things to come their way in the coming games.

“We’re a shadow of what we were last year, but that’s part of basketball. We want them coming out confident, we want them believing on themselves, want then understanding they have opportunity there that they’ve got to compete and fight,” added Trillo.

“I saw a couple of guys with their heads (bowed down) after a play. You don’t want that. Hopefully we learn and grow from this. There’s always growth in losses. Obviously, there’s a lot of things to improve on.”

Against the Elasto Painters, Trillo saw a lot of positives, particularly when the team fought back from a huge deficit.

“I feel good that they competed today. Other days they would just bow their heads and give up early. Like anybody, they’re all competitors, they want to win. They feel terrible. I feel bad for them because I could have done a better job. But at the end of the day you will look at it, we win as a team, we lose as a team,” he added.

Import Rob Dozier is playing well for the Aces but he got no ample support from the locals as he was only the lone player to score in double-digit in their loss to the E-Painters.

But with the current season only a single round elimination, the Aces must make a pedal on the metal in order to make it to the Playoffs.
