Alaska crowned as the champion of the 2014 Charter Day Cup following a sweep of its opponent

CEBU CITY –
The Alaska Milk Aces won the 2014 Charter Day Cup title with a sweep of its opponent.
It was also a  warning to  other PBA clubs in the next conference's Governor Cup that they will be a team to reckon again following a dismal campaign in the Philippine Cup.
Alaska completed the sweep with a 96-86 win over the Mindanao-based commercial team Natumolan-Tagoloan Sunday at the Cebu Coliseum..
The format is whoever ends up at the top after the single-round of the four-team single round-robin tournament will be crowned as the champion.
Cebuano big man Sonny Thoss, the most consistent player through out the tournament, anchored Alaska’s offense down the stretch as he scored eight of his 17 points in the last five minutes of the game to beat the Tigers of head coach Van Halen Parmis, the winningest commercial basketball coach in this region.
The game was tied at 62-all heading to the last quarter when Thoss took over the scoring chores, scoring six in a 14-8 run that gave them the push needed to hack out the victory.
Last year’s Best Import Rob Dozier led the Aces in scoring with 20, while Calvin Abueva added 11.
The University of the Visayas Green Lancers’ 6-foot-11 import Jean Marie Mpouma, who showed his inside power, paced the Tigers with 17 points while Ferdinand Lusdoc, Patrick Cabahug and Ian Saladaga had 11 points each.
In the second game, GlobalPort ended the tournament on a winning note, defeating Talk ’N Text, 85-79.
